good talk
On November 20, 1943 22-year old Sergeant William J. Bordelon of San Antonio landed under heavy fire on Tarawa with the 2nd Marine Division. Seeing most of his comrades being killed Sergeant Bordelon devised satchels of explosives and singlehandedly began assaulting Japanese Pillboxes a Pillbox consisting of a concrete bunker with a machine gun machine gunner and maybe 5 more Japs. Sergeant Bordelon personally assaulted and blew up 2 Pillboxes killing everyone within and then was struck by machine gun fire as he assaulted and blew up a 3rd Pillbox. Refusing medical attention Sergeant Bordelon went to the aid of wounded Marines saving lives then he assaulted yet a 4th Pillbox with it being blown up as he was killed instantly by machine gun fire. Sergeant Bordelon was awarded the Medal of Honor and is buried at Fort Sam Houston where my Parents lay honored to be amongst him.
