Last Friday, Las Vegas Metro (police) ended a 12-hour barricade stand-off, by sending in "Nicky" of their K-9 Unit, who cornered the suspect.  The suspect then slashed Nicky with a machete, inflicting deep-wounds to Nicky's face and head, with Nicky fighting-back and biting the suspect several times, it was Nicky who came-out on-top.  Both the suspect and Nicky went to the hospital, with Nicky undergoing 2 hours of surgery.  Nicky's handler, Sgt. Eric Kerns said ...His wounds were pretty severe... but that ...He's strong, he's pretty resilient... and that Nicky is expected to make a full-recovery and return to duty in 3 weeks.  The suspect is expected to go-off for a long-time for his attack on Nicky and other related-crimes, there his proclivity for dog-slashing, moot.  Nicky is a Belgian Malinois, it's an old stat, but the last I heard, one would cost 3 thou (they're often used for drug-detection, as the Courts long-ago ruled that a suddenly-sitting Belgian Malinois was ample-reason for a legal-search, they can detect a reefer underneath 2 tons of iced-watermelons).  We all wish brave Officer Nicky a wonderful life
